2010 Tutor Training Conference Registration

The Cabrini Green Tutoring Program, Chicago Lights, and Cabrini Connections are collaborating to host the Fifth Annual Tutor Training Conference on Saturday, October 9, 2010.

This is a MANDATORY training day for all new, prospective, and returning volunteers of Cabrini Connections.  Our goal is to provide an array of training opportunities for our volunteer tutors, offering something for everyone from the novice to our most experienced veterans. We do this with a variety of workshops relevant to the one-to-one tutoring of students in grades 1-12. Workshops are scheduled to run for 50 minutes each, beginning at 9:30am. All workshops will be finished by 3:00pm. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. The event is held at Fourth Presbyterian Church, 126 E. Chestnut St., on the corner of Michigan Ave. and Chestnut St., and is FREE for all of our volunteer tutors.

The Role of a Volunteer

The primary role of a volunteer is to be a mentor. A mentor at Cabrini Connections acts like a surrogate parent, aunt or uncle. The role is a motivator, a coach, a tutor, and an advocate. You are a guide. Your purpose is not to shape a youth to your values, but to help them be everything they have the potential to be. When you are a mentor you show a student you care. This means many things. You show this by attendance, by your interest in what they do, what they are doing in school, who they are and what is important to them.

Volunteer Opportunities at Cabrini Connections

Not everyone can make the time to volunteer as a tutor/mentor. There are many other ways you can help Cabrini Connections.
Volunteers serve in leadership roles, from our Board of Directors and Advisory Council to the groups who organize our Holiday Party, Field Trips to Business and College Sites, and our annual Video Festival. Volunteers also help with the Tutor/Mentor Connection.Read this pdf on role of Talent Volunteers.
